multi-floored pine & chrome bar, a recent addition to the city's pub complement

On returning from a prolonged trip to New Zealand, I was intrigued to find a new bar venue opened just down the road from my day job. This I had to check out. Republic is a sleek, designed bar venue just near the ASX building on the corner of Pitt and Bridge, with multiple floors and what we've all come to recognise as the staple decor for any modern bar in Sydney - wood floors, lots of chrome and mood lighting, with plenty of natural light through large windows. We've been told there are regular DJs and 'club' nights, but our interest lies more in the drinks and conversation end of things, unless there's a live band, so we're sticking to the ground floor bar for now. It's become a bit of a haunt for post-workday drinks for the suits in the area, so if you arrive on friday evening be prepared for a crush. Other than that, it's got all the standard CBD-pub features, inluding a fairly decent wine list for the discerning among us. Worth checking out.

A new pub, so the interior is new and well designed. I have dropped in a few times for some beers with friends who work nearby. As expected a suit bar - however not a bad place for a catch up immediately after work - if you are happy to pay over $4 for a domestic on tap beer. Again a bar to go to if meeting someone there, as Tex is right in saying there isn't much atmosphere - so you have to bring your own. However luckily I was situated near the big screen on all occasions, so mates, sport talk and beers was on the agenda - all good and the sorroundings good as well.

Not a lot of atmosphere here but an ideal location for an after work drink

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. : Dave Barry - more quotes...
