recommended pub Palisade
A great little pub, tucked away at the back end of The Rocks

35 Bettington Street, The Rocks

I'm quite fond of the Palisade myself. We 'discovered' it one summer evening, sat outside sipping VB and enjoying the breeze, and never looked back.

It's a tall sandstone building overlooking a wide sweep of road in the quieter backwaters of The Rocks, and retains a charmingly ramshackle feel from the framed images of Sydney gone by to the timeworn floorboards.

There's a restaurant if you're hungry, and it makes a great starting point for a crawl back towards the area's more 'seething' fleshpots. We prefer to sneak down the alley at the side and sit on the park bench and watch the activities in the harbour below.

Will going be going to the Palisade on the long weekend. Looking forward to those great views from the roof, the cold beer and the good conversation with the bar staff. Best pub in Sydney except for the Hero of Waterloo.

Last time I was there they had added pokies to the front room, with their dinky music turned up maximum. Why?

Absolutely beautiful. A great place to start the day with a magnificent view. I liked the beer selection and the bar was quaint. I could have stayed there longer but a Pub Crawl was calling.

Originally from London and love pub crawls and have been to many pubs in Sydney but this is the gem of the lot.A really great pub 10 out of 10 for me

Ahhh!! After the debacle of the Nag's Head (The Pokies Dread) (see my review) this pub has now become my favourite. Excellent views, nice fireplace to get cosy and generally a great atmosphere. May be too secluded for some but it is perfect for me.

I've been drinking here for years when i was working nearby. One of the few places in Sydney that can call themselves a 'real pub' - no pokies, good mix of drinkers but cld do with a pool table! go on a friday and you can't move! Well worth the treck. If only the nth shore of Sydney had places like this to drink in.

On clear nights the roof is the best function area in Sydney. Worth the walk from the city centre.

Pubs like the Toxteth in Glebe could learn a lot about how to treat locals from a pub like the Palisade - No pokies, no backpackers and the best view in Sydney - FABULOUS!

There are NO Poker machines! Has to be the best pub in Sydney with a view no one knows about. Renee and Julia are really friendly bar maids!
