Gaslight Inn
Sunday Telegraph claims 'coldest beer in Sydney'

278 Crown Street,

Searching for a venue in Sydney a month before Xmas proved to be a little hard as I had left it too late. I found a function room at the Gaslight Inn which fitted my requirements - central, nice space, open til 3am. From the beginning however I was apprehensive, they charged a $500 fee (most places you just need to spend a certain amount behind the bar); & the Manager had a rude, unfriendly attitude.

I persevered however & the night came. During the party the Manager stormed around aggressively with a walkie talkie with very negative behaviour, creating a very bad vibe. It was a tame party of 30 somethings, dancing had only just begun when she called the police & shut us down at 12am. It was a huge surprise & the reason was because she didn't like the behaviour of one of my friends. My friend was an eppileptic (which she knew) and his behaviour was not offensive or aggressive, a little erratic but not causing any trouble.

It was very embarrassing & upsetting for me that the whole party was shut down. I am very surprised there was not more tolerance in an inner city pub, & would advise people think twice before chosing this as a venue.

Anna is the best barmaid in the buisness. Its worth going just to meet her!

A classic small pub where even after only a couple of visits the staff know your drink and generally get it to the spot your heading to before you sit down. Friday nights are a speciality with some free punter-food thrown in.

The GasLight is a little haven away from the hussle bussle going on all around. Have a yarn to the locals (read bar flies) that inhabit the place during the day - they're always on for a chat. A truely ecclectic bunch with a common goal of having a beer. Make sure you check out the tiles on the western wall - they alone should be heritage listed.
