Impressions : downstairs is dark, a touch shabby, but busy nonetheless. Being surrounded by offices does this place no harm at all on weekday evenings. Upstars in the bistro bar, though, it’s a more stylish affair. Like most ‘bars’ in the city, it’s chrome and wood, though luckily the look is not overbearing. It’s lit through stained glass and stylish little mood lights of the kind I’d love in my loungeroom.

Downstairs is loud, with people having to shout over their neighbours to be heard. No seats at the long bar and you get the impression that this place has been going well for years now and it’s not going to be overhauled thank you very much, but again, upstairs is the winner with the level of conversation far from overbearing.

Cocktails are $8.50, crown is $4.50

With the demise of the Century, this is now the only option in the cinema district. Only problem is that its too small for the Friday night crowd...

After work boozer...exactly. Nice change from the stuffy and pretentious arthouse which seems perennially popular. The Edinburgh Castle has tried to go art deco but didn't quite make it but not a big worry the staff and prices kept me happy.

Best Caeser salad in the city 'supposedly' without anchovies in the dressing!! Good stuff!

Jason says:

most recent visit (mid Oct 2003) found the staff to be a little surly (and slow to serve)
