Cafe Lounge
not quite a 'pub' but a great function or cafe venue all the same

This is a great inner city bar. It is reminiscent of the Darlo Bar with its retro mix mash of furniture all so casually thrown together to look very funky indeed. There are a series of wooden tables and, of course, lounges as the name would suggest. Don’t be fooled by the shabby furniture or casual atmosphere and expect the drinks to be cheapish. They are not way over the top but expect to pay $6.00 and upwards for a spirit. It is city bar prices all the way. The crowd is super cool, but think more diesel than prada. Most of the seating is in the courtyard section that has a canvas covering that can be removed if the weather permits. We arrived early evening and the place had a great vibe. I have also been there on a bright Saturday afternoon and it is wonderful to have a beer in a patch of sun right in the middle of the city. Once the sun goes down the candles come out giving the place a wonderfully intimate feel. They have DJ’s Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. We rocked up on a Thursday and found that at times the music made it hard to hear and was a bit too hip hop for my taste. But other times it was great and perfect for a bar situation. So I guess it is really just pot luck pending on who you get on the decks. The food is just fantastic. We shared the vegetarian antipasto plate ($14) and it was excellent. We were very pleasantly surprised when the request for extra bread was met with no charge. The menu is filled with interesting dishes crammed with fresh ingredients – think I will be returning to work my way down it!

Caroline from Surry Hills
Love this bar - furniture is a bit of a shambles which adds to the laid back atmosphere. Do a good brunch too.
